Airbus A320 Type Rating

Transitioning to the airline cockpit

Becoming an airline pilot is defined by a moment of transition.
From training to operation.
From preparation to responsibility.
From learning to performance.
The Airbus A320 Type Rating at Aviation Career Center represents that transition — a structured and uncompromising step into professional aviation, where pilots are prepared to operate one of the world’s most widely used commercial aircraft.

A structured pathway to operational readiness

The Airbus A320 family is at the core of global airline operations.

Known for its advanced fly-by-wire technology, highly automated systems, and standardized cockpit philosophy, it defines the environment in which modern airline pilots operate. Mastering the A320 is not only about understanding the aircraft — it is about understanding airline operations themselves.

Training is therefore focused not only on systems, but on the mindset required to operate within a commercial aviation framework.

A structured pathway to operational readiness

The A320 Type Rating program is designed as a complete, airline-oriented training process, guiding pilots from theoretical understanding to real aircraft operation.

The program includes:

  • Comprehensive ground school, covering aircraft systems, limitations, and procedures
  • Fixed Training Device (FTD) sessions for procedural familiarization
  • Full Flight Simulator (FFS) training, replicating real operational scenarios
  • Final skill test under EASA standards
  • Base Training with take-offs and landings in the actual aircraft

Each phase is designed to build confidence progressively — ensuring that pilots are prepared not only to pass, but to perform.

Training data and structure

The program is delivered in accordance with EASA requirements and airline standards.

Key Training Elements:

Ground school: approx. 100 hours

Simulator training:

  • 8 hours FTD (Fixed Training Device)
  • 36 hours Full Flight Simulator (FFS)
  • Base Training:
  • 6 take-offs and landings in Airbus A320 aircraft

This structured approach ensures a complete transition from theoretical knowledge to practical capability.

Airline-oriented from the beginning

Training is conducted with a clear objective: operational readiness.

From the first session, pilots are introduced to airline-standard procedures, including:

  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Crew Resource Management (CRM)
  • Multi-crew coordination
  • Decision-making in time-critical environments

The program reflects real airline workflows, ensuring that the transition into line operations is seamless and natural.

Delivered by aviation professionals

Instruction is led by experienced airline pilots and type rating instructors, bringing operational knowledge directly into the training environment.

This ensures that learning is grounded in real-world application — where procedures, communication, and decision-making reflect actual airline operations rather than simplified training scenarios.

Base Training — the final step

The transition from simulator to aircraft is completed through Base Training.

During this phase, pilots perform take-offs and landings in the Airbus A320, translating simulator experience into real aircraft operation. This moment represents a critical milestone — where training becomes reality.

It is where confidence is confirmed, and readiness is established.

Preparing for the airline environment

The A320 Type Rating is more than a certification.

It is preparation for:

  • Airline selection processes
  • Operator Conversion Courses (OCC)
  • Line training under supervision
  • First Officer responsibilities

Pilots leave the program not only qualified, but prepared to integrate into professional airline environments.

A clear step forward

For many pilots, the A320 Type Rating represents the gateway to their first airline position.

Combined with the right foundation — whether through integrated training or cadet pathways — it provides direct access to opportunities across the global aviation market.

Explore

Defined by readiness

At Aviation Career Center, the objective is not simply to issue a rating. It is to ensure that every pilot who completes the program is ready — technically, operationally, and mentally — to enter the airline cockpit.
Explore

The moment of transition

Every pilot remembers the moment they step into a commercial aircraft as part of the crew.

  • The responsibility is real.
  • The environment is dynamic.
  • The expectations are absolute.

The A320 Type Rating is where that journey becomes tangible.
